Privacy Policy

Darknet Market Index is a research and reference resource about darknet markets, Tor hidden services, and the ecosystems that surround them. Visitors often arrive with a reasonable expectation of privacy, and we take that seriously. This page explains, in plain terms, what little information we handle, why we handle it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We collect as little as possible because the site works as a public directory — reading it should not require revealing anything about you.

Information we collect

We do not ask you to register, and there is no account system. The only data that reaches us is what any web server records automatically:

  • IP address of the connecting client
  • Browser user agent string
  • Requested page or resource path, and the time of the request
  • Referring URL, where the browser sends one
  • Basic error and status codes

These entries exist for operations and troubleshooting. We do not build visitor profiles, combine logs with other datasets, or attempt to identify individual readers.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. If any cookie appears, it is a functional one — for example, remembering a display preference. You can block or delete it in your browser without losing access to the directory.

Why the logs exist

Server records help us keep the site online: diagnosing errors, defending against scraping and denial-of-service traffic, and spotting abuse. Nothing collected here is sold, rented, or traded to third parties. We do not share visitor data with advertisers or data brokers, because we do not work with them.

Third-party services

The site may be delivered through a content delivery network, which processes requests on our behalf so pages load reliably. Any such provider sees the same technical request data described above and is bound to use it only for delivery. If analytics are used, they are configured to avoid cross-site tracking. Where no such service is in place, none of your data leaves our infrastructure.

Children

Darknet Market Index is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly gather personal information from children, consistent with COPPA. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, write to the address below and we will remove it.

Your choices

Even with minimal data, you have rights over what we hold:

  • Ask whether we hold any record associated with your request
  • Request a copy of what can reasonably be identified
  • Request deletion of log entries or correspondence
  • Object to a specific use of your data
  • Ask how long records are retained

Send requests to the contact address below. We may need enough detail to locate the relevant record, and we will respond within a reasonable period.

Updates to this page

When our practices change, we revise this policy and post the new version here with a fresh date. Continued use of {site_name} after a revision means you accept the updated text. Material changes will be described, not slipped in quietly.

Contact

Questions about privacy, data handling, or a deletion request go to {contact_email}. Please include enough context for us to understand the request. For general questions about the directory itself, refer to the main {site_name} pages.
